We often get asked, “What goes into the making of Divine Intervention?” The answer is as layered as the blend itself. Each bottle is the culmination of a meticulous, three-phase approach that leverages ancient wisdom and unfolds during a period that lasts over nine weeks. The process is meditative and reflective of nature—slow-brewed and hand-blended for a saturated unspoiled final product. Crafting each small batch is a labor of love, patience and precision. Here's a glimpse into the process:
Phase 1: The Foundation of Healing
At the heart of Divine Intervention lies gumbo limbo, a revered tree native to the Yucatán. Known for its potent medicinal properties, gumbo limbo resin is the star botanical of our formulation, offering profound healing, rejuvenation, and nourishment for the skin.
In this initial phase, gumbo limbo is carefully blended with two other powerhouse ingredients: tamanu oil, harvested from the sacred forests of Polynesia, and argan oil, sourced from a women’s fair-trade cooperative in Morocco. Together, these precious oils form the foundation of our blend, each chosen for their ability to soothe and protect the skin.
The herbs and oils need time to harmonize to reach their full potential and potency. As Michelle Spina, the creator of this healing, proprietary blend and Apothecary Saints co-founder explains, “We don’t want to denature the oils or rush the process. We want to preserve their vitality, health, and freshness.”
Phase 2: The Art of Refinement
Once the herbal brew distills for nine weeks, the blend enters its second phase. Here, we carefully strain out all herb particles through muslin, leaving behind a pure, golden infusion.
This refined base is then enriched with Sicilian olive oil and rosehip seed oil, both brimming with antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids. Sicilian olive oil, with its squalene content, promotes microbiome diversity, while rosehip seed oil, sourced from New Zealand, delivers deep hydration and protection against environmental stressors.
Phase 3: The Final Alchemy
The final phase is where the magic truly happens. We introduce even more herbs and botanicals, each selected for their unique healing properties. French lavender calms inflammation and soothes dryness, frankincense enhances skin tone and elasticity, and cypress improves circulation and reduces puffiness. Sandalwood reduces oily skin, evens skin tone and nourishes. Immortelle regenerates skin by promoting new cell turnover and improving blood flow. Elemi balances sebum, prevents sagging, shrinks pores, and rejuvenates sun damage. Copaiba is rich in Vitamin E, oleic acid, linoleic acid assists with cell regeneration.
The result is what Michelle describes as “the most delicious mélange of healing herbs,” a blend that has been used for centuries to heal and beautify the skin.
The Outcome: A Divine Elixir
The final product is a bespoke and handcrafted skin elixir, bottled in Miron glass to preserve its integrity, and packaged with love. While it’s not the fastest way to make skincare, it’s the only way we know how.
